Fusion Overcomes Smart Home Installation Challenge in Atlanta with Sheetrock and Slate

Situated in a quiet, wooded area that offers a lovely sanctuary from the nearby city of Atlanta, this Georgian smart home boasts a plethora of discreet technological touches from Fusion Audio + Video that provide the utmost atmospheric immersion for homeowners looking to unwind.

A smart home protected in the city of Atlanta

The Atlanta smart home features Control4 automation integrated with Control4 lighting as well as an extensive security system and Sony OLED TVs to match the quality of the Origin Acoustics and Sonos speakers featured throughout most of the home, but a particular emphasis was placed on outdoor and theater audio, which South Carolina-based Fusion was more than willing to provide.

Transforming this Atlanta property from a traditional home to a smart home wasn’t without its challenges, though. Called in mid-construction, Fusion’s team had to work without any documentation or wiring diagrams, and to top it off, the drywall had already been installed, causing significant delays.

“The fundamental tasks required significant workarounds,” Mulford said. “(But) because the client trusted Fusion to cut the drywall and slate from their newly built home to complete the installation, Fusion was able to deliver a complete project to the client’s satisfaction.”

Immersive Atmos Home Theater Powered by McIntosh

Powered by a McIntosh surround sound system and equipped with Bowers & Wilkins speakers, the home theater is perhaps the pinnacle of the guest experience, according to Heidi Mulford, executive assistant at Fusion Audio + Video.

The event also highlighted many of the challenges Fusion faced. Rewiring for the Atmos layout, for example, required reframing studs to install the rear enclosures of the Bowers & Wilkins in-wall and ceiling speakers. Meanwhile, finding the contractor’s speaker installations required technicians to adjust the sound for each location.

Fabric and acoustic panels complete the look, with a custom Screen Innovations screen and Sony laser projector delivering pristine video and audio. There’s also a custom Gemini constellation ceiling, a nod to the clients’ twins, and custom seating, creating a truly unique home theater that allows clients to immerse themselves in the entertainment.

The timing of the project launch is not enough to dissuade Fusion Audio + Video

Although the smart home project is located in the Atlanta area, the property offered ample wooded coverage for the audio installation and, as a result, many obstacles for the technicians to work around. The technicians had to work against the landscape to bury two Ambisonic subwoofers on a slope to produce the desired audio output.

Elsewhere in the house, the design of the family room fireplace also dictated an unusually tall television stand that involved the use of a mechanical lift and the reframing of the fireplace to accommodate the lift.

Fortunately, Mulford noted that the patience and trust placed in him by the clients allowed the team to overcome many challenges at a pace that was safe for the project to come to fruition.

“Although the Fusion team began this project after the home was fully built, they were able to successfully install and program a complete home system despite unforeseen obstacles,” Mulford concluded. “This project proves that it is still possible to exceed customer expectations with exceptional, reliable systems.”
