A Hillsborough County Jail inmate has died. Officials are investigating.

A 45-year-old man died Thursday night in the Hillsborough County Jail following an apparent medical incident, county officials said.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, jail staff found 45-year-old Pedro Morales unconscious at 8:30 p.m. Officers transported Morales to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, Morales appeared to have suffered a “medical incident.”

When asked for further information on the nature of the incident, a spokesman declined to provide details and said the investigation into Morales’ death was still ongoing.

Prison records show Morales was arrested Wednesday morning on charges of cocaine possession.
