Former Clemson player Eli White called up to MLB by Atlanta Braves

A former Clemson baseball star is making his return to the major leagues. Eli White has been called up by the Atlanta Braves from the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers.

This is White’s first appearance with the Braves this season, following a brief stint last year where he played in six games, recorded one hit in 14 at-bats, walked two and scored one run.

In 54 minor league games this season, White has shown his talents, batting .289 with seven home runs, 12 doubles, 28 RBIs, 38 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. The Braves traded White to the Texas Rangers on Dec. 28, 2022, for cash considerations.

Originally selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, White spent three seasons (2020-22) with the Rangers after being traded from the A’s in 2018. The 30-year-old has nine career home runs and 17 stolen bases in the major leagues, known for his speed and defensive prowess.

During his time at Clemson, White was the starting shortstop for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Over three seasons, he hit .275 with a .375 on-base percentage in 153 games (133 starts), adding 22 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 61 RBIs, 104 runs and 36 stolen bases to his college statistics.
