Virginia Tech student killed in boating accident in Lake Gaston

A 19-year-old Virginia Tech student died last week in a boating accident on Lake Gaston.

According to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, three people were aboard a boat that struck a dock on Lake Gaston on June 22.

We’re told 19-year-old Jackson Fendley died in the accident. According to the Kyger Funeral Home, Fendley was a student at Virginia Tech and a native of Harrisonburg.

Officials said the suspected boat operator initially left the scene of the accident and sustained injuries. We’re told he was treated and released from the hospital.

There was another passenger on board who was uninjured.

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission said the investigation is ongoing and charges will be filed.
