Serial burglar posing as food delivery driver arrested in Irvine – NBC Los Angeles

Investigators in Irvine arrested a Monrovia man on Tuesday on suspicion of committing a series of burglaries that began in November 2023.

According to police, 37-year-old Marcus Allen Corner posed as a food delivery man during these break-ins while scouting out homes he wanted to break into.

His crimes were recorded by several surveillance cameras.

“In one of the videos, you can actually see a Starbucks bag with a receipt attached to it, like you would see if someone was delivering it,” said Kyle Oldoerp, an information specialist with the Irvine Police Department. “So he can walk around the area and check his phone. If someone challenges him, he’s there to make a Door Dash delivery.”

Two weeks ago, Corner used the same technique to break into a condominium on Avenue One on Scholarship near Dupont Drive.

“The suspect passed by our front door as I was leaving my house,” said the residents, who wished to remain anonymous. “At the time, I thought nothing of it.”

After the husband leaves, Corner rings the doorbell to check if anyone is home, police said.

“Ten minutes later, the RING camera shows him opening our door from the inside,” the victim said. “It turns out he gained entry by breaking our second-story skylight because when I got home, it was completely shattered.”

The couple said the burglar stole jewelry worth tens of thousands of dollars.

“The pieces her parents gave her as a baby are very sentimental and have definitely hurt me emotionally over the last two weeks,” the husband said.

“They are irreplaceable, but I think in the end none of us are hurt,” the woman said.

Irvine police believe Corner is responsible for at least four burglaries in Irvine since November, including one on Michelson Drive, another in the Villages at the Spectrum and one at the Skyloft Apartments.

They believe there are many more victims and hope people will recognize the suspect’s distinctive tattoos and food bag.

“That’s actually how we tracked him down. We posted that on our social media,” Oldoerp said. “A victim had come across him during a burglary that she hadn’t reported, so she reported him to her police department. There was a lot of great police work behind that. We arrested him yesterday.”

Police suspect Corner may be behind other burglaries in Orange and Los Angeles counties.
