45-year-old stepfather arrested for raping his 8-year-old stepdaughter

A 45-year-old man Was arrested at Mahwelereng Police Station on Friday, 14 June 2024 for the rape of his 8-year-old stepdaughter at her residence in Sekgakgapeng.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect sexually abused his stepdaughter by raping her between May and June 2024, after which the victim’s mother left him alone with the child.

The victim’s mother was away for several days for treatment because she was not feeling well.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, on Thursday, June 13, 2024, the mother came home and the victim told her mother that her stepfather had raped her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

“She took the child to a local hospital for medical attention and doctors confirmed penetration.

“The police were notified and a case of rape was initiated. The suspect was then arrested,” said Ledwaba.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and praised the police for quickly arresting the suspect.

He is scheduled to appear before the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in Mokopane on Tuesday, 18 June 2024.
