“I wish he was still here”: balloon release in memory of Damon Price, man killed at Houston Farmers Market

HOUSTON – A week after Damon Price was shot and killed while working at the Houston Farmers Market, those who loved him most were remembering his life.

Price, 36, was shot after confronting two teenagers who allegedly tried to steal a golf cart from the Houston Heights business early last Thursday morning.

At Tidwell Park a week later, more than 150 people gathered to release a balloon into the sky and say a final goodbye to Damon.

“I just want to say that, Damon. He was loved,” said one of the many guests to speak.

There were family, friends and the community who loved Damon like family.

“He was my co-worker at the farmers market,” one woman said. “I’m going to continue to be there for the family.”

While holding back tears, they all released blue and white balloons into the sky around 6:45 p.m., just as the sun was setting.

“I haven’t stopped thinking about him since this happened, but I’m going to keep going,” said Damon’s father, Leo Price Sr. “And we would all like to get justice. You know, but that doesn’t won’t bring him back, but we’d like to have him.

A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody and booked on charges related to Price’s death, Houston police said.
