Murder investigation underway after body of missing girl (11) found

An 11-year-old girl reported missing in the western Peloponnese on Sunday was found dead in a field.

She had suffered stab wounds to her neck.

Police said a 37-year-old man, a cousin of the girl’s mother and her best man and husband, confessed to the murder. He said he stabbed her with a screwdriver, but police have not yet found the murder weapon.

They said the man, who was accused of raping a minor in 2017, took the girl to a remote area and murdered her on Sunday night. CCTV captured the moment the girl got into the man’s car.

An Amber alert was issued on Sunday for the girl from Myrtia near Pyrgos.
