Missing California man doing remote work in Washington found dead

Police said Saturday that 35-year-old Shun Riley was found dead in the Coweeman River and the investigation is ongoing.

KELSO, Wash – The 35-year-old man last seen leaving a Washington hotel has been found dead more than a week after he disappeared, according to Kelso police.

Police said Shun Riley’s body was found in the Coweeman River near Manasco Drive around 3:13 p.m. Saturday

According to Kelso police, Riley was last seen leaving a Comfort Inn & Suites in the Three Rivers Mall complex on Manasco Drive around 2:40 a.m. on May 9. In surveillance camera footage, Riley appeared to be in “extreme distress,” police said.

He had been doing remote work for an oil company, and before he disappeared, his wife told KGW she received a disturbing call.

“I felt like he had it in the bag – he talked a lot for about three minutes. I hung up and called back, calling his name and hearing, ‘Go this way, go this way,’ so I assumed something had happened,” Mary recalled. “I called the hotel and asked, ‘Can you do a health check for my husband?’ ?’ at 3 a.m. They said his room was unlocked and he wasn’t there.

When Riley’s family flew to Washington to search for him, they discovered that his hotel room was still full of his belongings.

The cause of death has not yet been determined and the investigation is still ongoing, the police said. The family requests privacy at this time.
