Futures qualifier Tanith Mueller sends verbal message to Houston (2025)

Tanith Mueller of Apex, North Carolina, announced his verbal commitment to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Houston. Mueller currently attends Apex High School and practices year-round with the Raleigh Marlins.

I decided to choose the University of Houston, because it truly felt like home. The team and coaches made me feel like part of their family and made me feel very welcome as well. Additionally, the team’s work environment was truly amazing, knowing that they would push me to do my best. I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful family. GO COOG!!”

Mueller is primarily a butterfly specialist, but he also swims middle distance, freestyle and IM. Last summer at the Futures Championships, she had her best result in the 200m butterfly, where she clocked 2:30.32 to place 50th.

Most recently, Mueller completed his short course season at the STAR Tarheel States meet and the North Carolina Senior Championships. At Tarheel States, she won the 100 and 200 fly in 55.62 and 2:05.43, both just off her 2023 personal bests. The 1650 highlighted her performance at the state meet senior, as she took first place in a personal best. a time of 17:22.20, more than twenty seconds faster than in 2023.

Also this spring, Mueller represented his high school at the North Carolina high school state championships. She finished 22nd in the 500 (5:13.56) and contributed to a 24.97 split in Apex’s 200 medley relay, placing 5th.

Houston, which previously competed in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), made its Big 12 conference debut this season. They finished 2nd behind Texas, which will no longer be in the conference in the future. The team is led by the head coach Tanica Jamisonwho took over in May 2021.

This year the Cougars butterfly events were led by Adelaide Meuter And Alondra Ortiz. Meuter clocked 54.10 en route to a 10th-place finish at the Big 12, while Oritz posted a conference time of 1:56.93 to lead Houston to a 4-5-6-7 finish in the 200 butterfly . Oritz is a rising junior and will overlap with Mueller for a season.

Mueller is currently joined by Emma overall, Rylee SimoneauxAnd Izzy Wilson in Houston’s incoming class of 2025.
