Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Houston on Thursday to address a major national teachers union as she continues her bid for the Democratic presidential nomination after President Joe Biden announced Sunday he would not seek reelection.

Harris will speak at 10 a.m. Thursday at the national convention of the American Federation of Teachers, a national teachers union, the group confirmed to the American-Statesman. The White House later confirmed the visit.

News of Harris’ visit to Texas came hours after Biden confirmed he would travel to Austin on Monday for a rescheduled appearance at the LBJ Presidential Library to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.

Biden’s initial visit was scheduled for July 15 but was postponed after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

The AFT voted Monday to endorse Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.

The United Steelworkers, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, United Food and Commercial Workers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and others have also endorsed Harris’ campaign.
