Man suffers burns when homemade firework explodes

An explosion in Hillsborough on Saturday left a man making fireworks with second-degree burns, police said.

Officers said they were called to the house on Three Bridges Road just before 4 a.m.

They concluded that the explosion was caused by the man mixing chemicals while making the fireworks.

The man refused medical attention and is in stable condition, according to authorities.

The incident is still under investigation, police said.
