Kamala Harris visits Atlanta and shares the stage with Steve Harvey

ATLANTA — Vice President Kamala Harris made another trip to Georgia on Friday. This time, she joined TV host Steve Harvey for a conversation at the 100 Black Men of America national conference.

“I wanted to come and speak to 100 black men, to this organization, because I know who everyone is here. This is a room full of leaders of all ages who can help spread the word about what we have made available ” she said. said. “The essence of this tour was born from the belief that people need more than what is necessary to get by.”

She spoke at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta – known as the “Hotel of Hope” – where Dr. Martin Luther King gave one of his final speeches. She said the venue was a symbolic stop on her economic opportunity tour.

She touted various Biden administration initiatives aimed at supporting small businesses, canceling student loans, helping first-time home buyers and providing medical debt relief.

“When we talk about the need for people to have access to economic opportunities, we need to consider what’s holding them back,” she said. “We have no shortage of hard work, work ethic, good ideas, ambition, aspiration; but there are barriers built into the system. They must be overcome to give people the opportunity.”

During their conversation, Harvey highlighted how important voter turnout will be in November, particularly among leaders in the Black community.

“If we don’t vote, how are we going to ask for something next time? No one will give you relief if you don’t vote,” he said. “Please stop tripping. When we get to November, we have to go to the polls.”
