Jennie Cook celebrates her 101st birthday on Friday

Jennie Cook celebrates her 101st birthday June 14 at Legacy Ridge in Peachtree. She will celebrate with the broader Atlanta community on June 21.

ATLANTA — Metro Atlanta woman celebrates milestone birthday as she turns 101 on Friday.

Jennie Cook has shared her secret to a long life.

“I was never satisfied unless I thought of someone I needed to help,” Cook said when asked her secret to living a long life.

Cook is originally from East Point but currently lives at Legacy Ridge at Peachtree in Peachtree City. Before that, Jennie Cook and her late husband, Bill Cook, raised their three children in the Atlanta area.

Today, their family has grown to include six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

The two met at the church baseball field when he caught a ball and winked at her. The 101-year-old said Bill supported her throughout her career as a telephone operator at Sears for nearly 50 years.

He held various jobs, including in a sawmill and at the ministry.


“Her stories, wisdom and kindness enrich our community every day,” said LeeAnne Ryan, director of sales and marketing at Legacy Ridge in Peachtree.

She will celebrate her birthday with the broader Atlanta community on June 21 at Legacy Ridge in Peachtree.
