One dead after early morning shootings in Danville

DANVILLE, Kentucky (WKYT) – Danville police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred early this morning.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, officers received an alert that shots had been fired at a private club on Dillehay Street.

When they arrived, they found evidence of a shooting, but there was no victim at the scene.

Shortly thereafter, they found a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen on Mason Avenue.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials believe the man was shot in his car in a parking lot on Dillehay Street.

Less than an hour later, officers responded to another shooting call on North 5th Street.

They found a pickup truck that had crashed into a yard.

Danville police said the 43-year-old driver was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to hospital where he later died.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was driving along North 5th Street when he was shot by several people standing on the side of the road.

Officials believe the victim attempted to escape backwards and then fell into the yard.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Neither the Danville Police Department nor the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office have provided us with any information on suspects.
