Hot and humid with some thunderstorms on Sunday, severe weather warning for Memorial Day

WASHINGTON (7News) — The second day of the holiday weekend will be similar to what we experienced on Saturday! That means heat and humidity under partly to mostly sunny skies. A storm or two could develop during the afternoon, but with a 30 percent chance, that means many areas will remain dry.

Some thunderstorms are possible overnight and could last into the early hours of Memorial Day Monday.

For the actual holiday, the First Alert Weather Team has issued a severe weather warning! A SLIGHT (Level 2 of 5) severe weather threat is in effect for the entire DMV region. Although some early thunderstorms are possible, the threat of severe weather should be limited to the afternoon and early evening hours. Heavy rain, damaging winds, hail, and even isolated tornadoes are currently possible.

While there will be some dry time to hit the pool or fire up the grill, you’ll want to keep an eye on the weather. You’ll want to have the First Alert Weather app handy with notifications enabled.

If you’re heading to the beach in the second half of the bank holiday weekend, remember that thunderstorms are also possible on the coast on Monday. Sunday should definitely be the better of the two days on the coast. Tuesday also looks good if you’ve extended your holiday.

The rest of the weather forecast calls for cooler and less humid conditions in the region for the second half of the week. While a storm or two is possible on Wednesday, the rest of the week looks dreamy.
