Oleksandr Usyk was suspended just days after his win against Tyson Fury.

Oleksandr Usyk has been banned just days after his stunning win over Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia.

Usyk defeated Fury by split decision to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999, when Lennox Lewis toppled Evander Holyfield.

Two of the three judges scored the fight in Usyk’s favor, who won the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and WBC world titles.

However, the Ukrainian, who improved his professional record to 22-0, will be stripped of his IBF title as the organization will make the decision in the coming weeks.

After the fight, the 37-year-old was immediately taken to hospital with a suspected broken jaw, but was given the all-clear.

However, according to BoxRec, the newly crowned undisputed champion has been suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control until June 2nd on medical grounds.

The ban will not have too much of an impact on Usyk’s career as he will not be competing in the foreseeable future.

After back-to-back training camps, which included a camp for the canceled showdown in February, he will take a break before possibly facing the “Gypsy King” again in October.

Speaking about Usyk’s condition immediately after his 12-round war with the previously unbeaten Brit, Alex Krassyuk said: “When we went to the dressing room (after the fight), the local doctor came to check. Usyk felt some discomfort in his upper jaw.” . The doctor said that anything could happen and this is a very sensitive area, so it needs to be examined as soon as possible.

He added: “Nothing major. He went to the hospital after the press conference, they did the tests and it’s about a week of recovery. Thank God. He is safe and sound.”

Usyk, who was the undisputed cruiserweight champion before moving up to heavyweight, now boasts victories over Anthony Joshua (x2) and Fury to further expand his already legendary boxing career.
