Power outages in Houston are a challenge for many

The storms may have passed, but we are certainly not out of the chaos yet.

Many people in the Houston area are now on their fourth day without power.

Initially, when the storms hit Thursday, the Greater Houston area experienced more than 900,000 power outages to homes and businesses.

In a normal situation, power would be restored much more quickly. However, due to the destruction of approximately 10 power/transmission towers, including 7 in Houston, full restoration of power took longer.

Without electricity, many people no longer have the luxury of air conditioning (despite the sweltering heat in our region) or the ability to quickly charge devices like cell phones or laptops.

On Monday, many people were looking for ways to stay in touch.

And some companies have mobilized.

Some people were seen at different businesses such as shopping malls, their local McDonald’s or libraries trying to connect to electricity and internet services.
