Charleston Police announce an addition to the King Street safety plan

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Charleston’s mayor and police chief will announce a change to the city’s King Street Safety Initiative at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Mayor William Cogswell and Police Chief Chito Walker will speak to reporters outside Charleston City Hall at 1 p.m

Cogswell announced the plan back in March, saying its goal was to improve safety and the overall quality of life in the King Street area.

The five key goals include alcohol-control partnerships with the Charleston Police Department, coordinated patrol initiatives, fire department inspections, access to outdoor cameras and designated rideshare pickup areas.

City leaders did not say before the news conference what they planned to add to the current initiative.
