Fatal crash kills MassDOT employee on Route 24 in Bridgewater

A Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) worker was fatally struck Saturday night while picking up debris on the side of Route 24 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz reported Sunday.

At about 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, a MassDOT worker traveling northbound on Route 24 was struck while outside his vehicle near Exit 28B, prosecutors said in a statement. The worker suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The worker was identified as 57-year-old David Sousa. The investigation into the accident is still ongoing, the prosecutor said.

The driver who hit Sousa is still at the scene of the accident, the statement said.
