(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Be careful! Not every dog out there is friendly.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) has issued a scam alert on its Facebook page to alert the community to a pet-related scam.

HSPPR stated that they have heard of a scam targeting people who are missing their pets. A person calls claiming to represent HSPPR and the shelter and demands money over the phone. HSPPR wants people to know that this is a scam and they do not ask for payment over the phone before returning a pet.

If you receive a suspicious call, HSPRR says you should go to the admissions office and speak to a representative in person. Do not give out any personal or financial information.
