Atlanta Braves first baseman makes history by dominating Detroit Tigers

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Detroit Tigers 7-0 on Wednesday at Truist Park in Atlanta.

With the win, the Braves are now 41-31 on the season, while the loss dropped the Tigers to a disappointing 34-40.

Braves first baseman Matt Olson went 0 for 4 in the win, but that didn’t stop him from writing a pretty impressive story due to his career-long dominance on Detroit.

Following today’s @Braves win over the Tigers, Matt Olson now has a career team record of 27-3 against Detroit.

The 27 team victories are the most ever in 30 career games against a single American League opponent.

Although Olson is in his third year in Atlanta, remember he spent six years with the Oakland Athletics, so he’s certainly had plenty of opportunities to play against the Tigers during his career. Along with how good the Braves are now, this proves how good Oakland was. Although the A’s are currently one of the worst teams in baseball amid their relocation decisions, they were still good throughout much of the 2000s.

Olson is hitting .251 this season with 11 homers and 38 RBIs. It’s a down year from his numbers last season, when he hit 54 home runs and drove in 139 runs, both of which he led in baseball.

The Braves are off Thursday but will be back in action Friday night for a big series with the New York Yankees, who have the best record in baseball. Chris Sale will pitch for Atlanta.
