Detectives investigate fatal hit-and-run accident in Takoma Park; photo of suspect vehicle released

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Monday, June 3, 2024.

At approximately 1:17 p.m., Takoma Park Police and Montgomery County Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a man with head injuries lying in the street in the 1100 block of University Blvd. E.

Officers found the victim in the eastbound lanes of University Blvd. E and transported him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Office of the Medical Examiner in Washington, DC performed an autopsy and concluded that the victim’s injuries were likely caused by a vehicle.

Detectives’ preliminary investigation has revealed that a westbound vehicle struck the pedestrian and fled the scene on Lebanon Street toward Prince George’s County.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab pickup truck (model year 1999-2006). Any damage to the vehicle is located on the left side and appears to be minor.

Investigators are still trying to determine the identity of the victim.

The victim is described as a 30 to 40 year old, 5’9″ tall, 150 lbs, Hispanic man with a short goatee, wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark blue sweatpants.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
