New lawsuit alleges metro Atlanta public schools violated Title IX

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Sandy Springs law firm is suing a group of metro Atlanta schools for violating the Title IX rights of students and staff.

The personal injury attorneys at Isenberg & Hewitt, PC say violations occurred in Carroll, DeKalb, Douglas, Gwinnett and Washington counties.

Title IX protects individuals from discrimination in educational programs based on their sex. The Civil Rights Act also provides protections against cases of sexual abuse, assault, coercion and hazing, the law firm said.

The company called a press conference at 11 a.m. Wednesday to announce five cases of “teacher-on-teacher assaults” and “student-on-student assaults.”

Last week, the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) filed a lawsuit against the Cobb County School District, claiming that school officials violated Titles IX and VI by censoring books that “present, tell stories or are written by LGBTQIA+ people and people of color.”
