Prom Costume Gift at KeyBank Center

Prom Costume Gift at KeyBank Center

BUFFALO, NY — Costume donations to St. Brian Clothiers will be accepted at the KeyBank Center all week. Each costume will help Buffalo Public Schools students dress their best at prom, free of charge.

It’s prom season, but St. Brian Clothiers founder Dewitt Lee III knows it could be a financially difficult time for some kids wanting to get the formal attire they need.

St. Brian Clothiers will host the competition in front of the main entrance of the KeyBank Center on Saturday, May 25.

“It’s a great moment of showing off. That’s where you want to shine the most, and we know not everyone has that option,” Lee said. “What we want to do is save people the anxiety, the depression, the sadness of not being their best.”

With tuxedo rentals costing well over $100, it can be difficult for some kids to get one.

Lee tells 7 News the last thing he wants to see is someone skipping prom because they have nothing to wear.

“A lot of kids think, ‘Hey, I’m not going to be able to look my best at prom,’ and maybe they forgot to do it, but those are moments you can’t relive,” Lee says.

St. Brian Clothiers founder Dewitt Lee III showed off some of the clothing that has already been donated to students.

For this prom season, Lee partnered with the Buffalo Sabers to transform the lobby of the KeyBank Center into a formal clothing store.

“We’re excited to turn this into a storefront,” Lee said. “And give kids a chance to see parts of this building they’ve never seen.”

But Lee needs help from people in the community.

All week, people can donate costumes at the arena’s box office, and he’s asking for extra help with shoes, belts and clothing fit for a teenager on his or her biggest day.

People can donate their costumes and clothing to the people working at the box office.

“I think it will be a life-changing moment for me, really,” Lee said.

The costume presentation will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

No student in need will be turned away and, unlike renting a tuxedo, every suit given to a student is theirs.
