JORDAN THOMPSON AGAINST YOSHIHITO NISHIOKA PREDICTION

There is no doubt that the two best players of the week will meet in the final at the Atlanta Open, with Jordan Thompson and Yoshihito Nishioka in what should be a very competitive match. They have met four times before, with Nishioka winning all four of them. The interesting thing about those meetings is that all of them went to three sets, which is somewhat surprising considering the same player won all four.

Nishioka has been in good form this week and, despite dropping a set, he overcame Arthur Rinderknech in the semi-finals in a tough win. He has played at a high and consistent level all week and will be confident going into this match.

Thompson will also be confident after playing some superb tennis this week. He fully deserved his win over Shang Juncheng in the semi-finals on Saturday night, outclassing the young Chinese prodigy. He will have to do something he has only managed to do on the Challenger Tour in 2018 and find a way to beat Nishioka.

Despite their dominant head-to-head, there’s not much to separate these two players, but we slightly prefer Nishioka based on his performances this week. He’s found a way to win against every player and he can do it again here. It wouldn’t be surprising if he finds himself in three sets again like they have in their last four meetings and their semifinals on Saturday, but Nishioka should do even better.
