Texas Longhorns’ Bijan Robinson Reveals ‘Christian McCaffrey’ Role for Atlanta Falcons

AUSTIN – Former Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson showed in his first year with the Atlanta Falcons that he was a star in the making, and he’s now being given a new offensive role to reflect that.

While speaking to the media on Monday, Robinson revealed that new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson’s plan is to become more “creative” in what the former Texas star described as a role similar to that of 49ers running back of San Francisco Christian McCaffrey.

“I’m going to be more of a runner who does everything else,” Robinson said. “It’s like a runner first, like what I did in college, and then I still have that access to get to the receiver, I still have access to creative things off the field back,” Robinson said. “It’s more like how they use Christian there in San Francisco, something like that. So that’s kind of what the plan is here.

As a rookie, Robinson showed the versatility Texas fans were accustomed to seeing during his three years with the Longhorns. He finished his first NFL season with 214 carries for 976 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He added 58 catches for 487 yards and four more scores.

Robinson is dealing with an ankle injury this offseason, but told reporters he felt “great” as he returned to practice earlier than expected on Monday.

“I feel good,” Robinson said. “I know I had to continue to rehabilitate and just feel comfortable getting back to myself. But it’s good. It’s good to get back on the field with the guys.

The Falcons will begin their regular season on Sunday, September 8 at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
