A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to prison and probation for an OWI crime.

According to court documents, Timothy Williams, 47, pleaded guilty to a Class D felony for his third or subsequent OWI offense. His five-year sentence was suspended except for 30 days, after which he will be placed on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

The charges stemmed from an incident on Jan. 12. A Jefferson police officer responded to a vehicle stuck in snow from a recent snowstorm in the 1200 block of North Elm Street. Court documents show Williams was the driver and showed clear signs of intoxication and refused to submit to a field sobriety test and breath test.

Williams was also ordered to pay more than $3,000 in fines, surcharges, court costs and other fees.
