Sun Noodle Frozen S&S Cup Saimin Recall Warning Due to Undeclared Egg Allergen: Maui Now

Sun Noodle has recalled the S&S Cup Saimin Noodles with Soup & Garnishes
(5 ounces) that contain an egg allergen that may cause mild to severe symptoms. PC: Ministry of Health

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health (DOH) Food and Drug Division (FDB) is alerting residents to a recall by Sun Noodle for its S&S Cup Saimin frozen Saimin products. Sun Noodle is conducting this voluntary recall because the ingredient label does not inform consumers that the recalled product may contain protein powder, which is an allergen. The frozen products are sold in ready-to-heat cups with a fish cake garnish containing the specific egg allergen. The recalled product had been distributed to local retailers throughout Hawaii since May 2023.

According to the State of Hawaiʻi DOH FDB, egg allergy symptoms usually appear a few minutes to a few hours after eating foods containing eggs. Signs and symptoms range from mild to severe and vary from person to person. Symptoms may include skin inflammation or hives; stuffy nose, runny nose and sneezing; digestive symptoms such as cramps, nausea and vomiting; and asthma signs and symptoms such as cough, wheezing, chest tightness, or shortness of breath. Although rare, egg allergy can cause anaphylaxis, a reaction that narrows the airways and can block breathing. Symptoms of anaphylaxis include swelling or tightness in the throat, a sharp drop in blood pressure, rapid heart rate, pain or tightness in the chest, rapid pulse, shock, severe difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, pale blue skin, and/or dizziness or fainting.

A consumer with an egg allergy or severe egg sensitivity should notify their healthcare provider if the recalled product has been consumed. If a consumer shows signs of anaphylaxis, immediately administer an epinephrine auto-injector (e.g., EpiPen, Auvi-Q, etc.) and call 911 or your local emergency number as anaphylaxis is a medical emergency , which requires immediate treatment. According to Sun Noodle, there have been no reports of illness or adverse events attributed to the recalled product.
