Houston Storm Recovery: CenterPoint is working to restore power to its customers by Wednesday following storm damage.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Recovery is underway in Houston and the surrounding area following Thursday’s severe weather, and CenterPoint Energy is continuing its efforts to restore power.

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the company reported that 82% of customers, or 2.3 million people, had had power restored.

The company said in a news release that technicians are working and aim to complete restoration work by Wednesday for customers available to receive service.

CenterPoint said nearly 2,200 vegetation workers and professionals arrived late Friday evening to continue the restoration project.

“Our teams’ visual inspections and damage assessments of our infrastructure yesterday showed that we have a lot of work to do in the coming days. The CenterPoint team and the support teams supporting our efforts are committed to restoring service to our customers. in the safest and fastest way possible,”said Lynnae Wilson, Senior Vice President of Electrical.

To date, 400,000 customers have had their electricity restored since Thursday evening. The change came just in time as temperatures in Houston are expected to reach the mid-90s over the weekend.

Currently, the PowerOutage.us Tracker shows that there are 545,086 people without electricity.

CenterPoint said its primary focus is homes and businesses. In a post on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, the company said workers went out before sunrise to continue repair work.

However, the company is working to fix its “slower than normal” power outage tracker on its website.

For more information, the company said it will frequently update its electrical alert system and the X platform.
