Woman charged with assaulting boyfriend and threatening police | News, Sports, Jobs

BOARDMAN – A woman is in prison for allegedly admitting to attacking her long-term partner.

Earla Anne Cheek, 45, of the Boardman Manor mobile home park on South Avenue, was arrested at her home Sunday evening and is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Boardman Court this morning on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and threats of domestic violence, as well as aggravated charges of intimidation and retaliation against police officers.

The police report states that Cheek was drunk and became belligerent immediately after police arrived, even though she had called and reported that she had been injured when her boyfriend kicked in the screen door of her trailer.

The boyfriend, who she said was also drunk, had run away and could not be found when police arrived at the scene.

The report states Cheek told police she was angry at the man because her small dog had run away in the area and she spent several hours looking for him and he was not home to help her. She said she found the dog but was still angry when her boyfriend came home around 10 p.m. and a verbal argument ensued.

The report said she told police the argument turned physical when she attacked the man in her front yard. They wrestled for about five minutes, she said, before getting up and cursing at each other before he retreated into the trailer and she sat on the porch to smoke a cigarette.

She told police that shortly thereafter, as he was leaving the trailer, he kicked the screen door open, swung it all the way open and hit her in her seat, cutting her lip.

Police concluded that Cheek was responsible for the incident and arrested her, but not without incident.

The report states that she had difficulty being handcuffed and when they tried to force her hands behind her back, she told a police officer, “I’m going to hurt you.”

During the ride to the Mahoning County Jail, Cheek allegedly admitted to using crack earlier in the week and drinking daily. She also told officers that when she gets out of jail, “someone is going to put a bullet in your head.” She added, “This is why cops die and you all deserve it.”

The report states that last month, Cheek took custody of a cousin from Pennsylvania’s three young children because she was unable to care for them. Police called Cheek’s mother to watch the children and a report of the incident will be forwarded to Mahoning County Children’s Services. Police reported that all of the children appeared to be safe and healthy.
