Median home sales in Cobb County exceed (gulp) half a million dollars

For proof that moving to the Atlanta suburbs isn’t necessarily the cheap, fallback home-buying option it once was, look no further than Cobb County.

The median home sale price in Georgia’s third-largest county reached a “milestone” in June by surpassing $500,000, according to data from real estate search service Tomo.

That’s significantly higher than the current median home sale price in Georgia ($386,000) and the United States as a whole (about $419,000).

According to Tomo representatives, June marked the first time that median home sales prices topped half a million dollars in Cobb County, which has active listings of up to $7.7 million.

Last month, 526 homes were sold in Cobb, bringing the median sales figure to $503,535.

However, Cobb’s prices are not the most expensive in terms of counties in metro Atlanta.

That title goes to Fulton County, with its affluent downtown neighborhoods and upscale suburbs such as Roswell and Alpharetta, where median home sales climbed to $620,000 in June.

But according to Tomo’s research, Cobb’s sales have increased significantly compared to other metro counties, including Gwinnett (median sales price of $460,000), DeKalb ($456,000) and Clayton ($255,000).
