Fundraiser planned for Cottonwood Falls woman after ‘life-changing’ car accident | Free

A fundraiser is being planned for a Cottonwood Falls woman as she continues to recover from a devastating car accident.

Emily Horst, 41, suffered serious and life-altering injuries as a result of a head-on collision on US Highway 50 near Road C on April 27. Horst was transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she underwent multiple injuries surgeries.

“Emily has been in the surgical intensive care unit at KU Medical Center since Saturday evening following the accident,” said Nancy Horst, Emily’s mother. “Her injuries are serious and her recovery and rehabilitation will take some time. We don’t know exactly how long.”

St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Strong City will host a cookies and gravy benefit breakfast at St. Anthony Hall on Rodeo Sunday, June 2, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. to raise money for Emily’s medical expenses. A donation will provide you with a breakfast of biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, cinnamon rolls, coffee and juice. All proceeds go to Horst.

Deliveries can be ordered by phone or text at 620-366-1211.

Nancy Horst said KUMC’s trauma team has provided “excellent care” for her daughter over the past two weeks and Emily continues to recover.

“We have a wonderful support system for her, her 9-year-old son and for us,” Horst said. “We have so much community support that it is impossible to name everyone. Emily is such a fighter and she defies all odds with her recovery.”

She said she was grateful for the upcoming fundraiser.

“We thank the members of St. Anthony for organizing the fundraiser for Emily and her son,” Horst said. “Your needs will be great on the journey ahead.”
