Trading rising White Sox superstar to Braves makes sense

The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is a month away.

This will happen on July 30th and the Atlanta Braves should be busy. Atlanta has some holes to fill on the roster due to injuries, but is still loaded with talent and should be able to make a deep playoff run. Only a successful trade deadline would contribute to this.

There will be plenty of players who could help the Braves, with the starting rotation being a position that needs strengthening. One player the Braves should consider trading is young Chicago White Sox star Garrett Crochet.

He’s been rumored at the trade deadline so far and it seems quite possible he could be traded. USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale even said the White Sox “intent” on trading him.

“The Chicago White Sox have quietly engaged in brief contract extension negotiations with ace Garrett Crochet, but with no optimism that a deal will be reached, the White Sox intend to trade him by the July 30 trade deadline,” Nightengale said. “The White Sox have received calls from 15 teams expressing interest in Crochet, who makes just $800,000 and is under team control through 2026. The X-factor for suitors will be how much Crochet can help them down the stretch and into October.”

It looks like he’s available and the Braves should be on a deal. He’s only 25 years old and has a 3.05 ERA and a league-leading 130 strikeouts. There’s a chance he hits an innings limit toward the end of the season, but that’s a bridge to cross at a different time. Atlanta needs pitching help and Hook could provide it for years to come.
