The Marigold Club is a new London-inspired restaurant in Houston

It’s time for you to head to Houston for a “classy but not formal” night out.

Goodnight Hospitality, the group led by master sommelier June Rodil and chef Felipe Riccio, is opening the Marigold Club on Tuesday, a London-inspired restaurant stocking up on French-influenced cuisine in a sumptuous space. At the helm is executive chef Austin Waiter, who spent time performing at some of London’s most famous venues before opening.

“Dining at the Marigold Club will be unlike any other experience in Houston,” Waiter said in a statement. “Diners will be able to discover little pieces of all my favorite parts of London spread across the menu, while enjoying an ice-cold martini accompanied by a raw bar program that uses seafood that our team has sourced and sourced fresh from the East Coast bays. These are just a few of the things the Marigold Club will have in store and I can’t wait for the town to discover the rest.

As mentioned, seafood is a big part of the menu. Seafood towers from the raw bar can be accompanied by a serving of gold or platinum Osetra caviar, as well as a scallop crudo with Meyer lemon chutney or a tuna tartare with Earl Gray and kohlrabi . Caviar is also highlighted on a Kaluga caviar sandwich with chive crème fraîche, while a take on the classic fish and chips (called fish ‘not’ chips here) sees lightly fried shellfish and beans greens served with citrus yogurt.

Heartier plates include Crescent Island duck Wellington with roasted maitake mushrooms and roast lamb loin over romesco. Plus, save room for dessert: custom-made ice cream carts will roam the dining room, offering chai tea, clotted cream and chocolate ice cream with toppings like molasses brownie pieces, candied hazelnuts and vanilla marshmallows.

When it comes to drinking, rest assured that Rodil put his training to good use, alongside the restaurant’s wine director, Ryan Cooper. Both placed emphasis on French winemakers as well as Champagne, with the “Get Chuffed!” offering a dozen oysters accompanied by a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée. As Waiter said, there will also be a selection of Martinis and high tea service offered once brunch begins in September.

Such luxurious food deserves a setting to match the plates, and Goodnight Hospitality worked with architects Fox Fox Studio to achieve this. Seating 160 people, the restaurant is adorned with green velvet-covered ceilings and lush banquettes. Hand-painted murals are reminiscent of Bemelmans’ iconic designs at the Carlyle in New York, while hallways are covered in de Gournay floral wallpaper.

Marigold Club is simply a treat for the senses, from the view of the interiors to the delicious cuisine.
