2 deaths confirmed in wildfires, more possible fatalities may be added to official toll, says village of Ruidoso

UPDATE: The Village of Ruidoso has updated its social media post that originally confirmed three people died from the fires. It now says the number of confirmed deaths remains at two, but adds that “USAR teams have identified potential fatalities that could add to that number.” You can read the official statement here.

When residents return to their homes, those in charge inform them that there are “prohibited areas/restricted zones” to which residents are not allowed to enter.

These areas are currently considered crime scenes and recovery operations are underway.

Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) K-9 teams are investigating and will clear the areas in question.

The town of Ruidoso reports that the death toll may rise as USAR K-9 teams continue their efforts.
