Maricopa County confirms 6 heat-related deaths this season, 87 cases under investigation

In Maricopa County, six people have already died from heat-related illnesses this season, and 87 more cases are under investigation, health officials said.

The weekly reporting period ended Saturday with the sixth death caused by heat or in which heat contributed to death, according to the Maricopa County Health Department.

The cases that remain under investigation are those where the county coroner suspects heat-related deaths.

Two-thirds of the dead were male, as county statistics show. 33 percent of all deaths were in the 20- to 34-year-old age group, and another 33 percent were 75 years or older.
