How Gas Prices Changed in Houston Last Week

HOUSTON (Stacker) — The average cost of a gallon of gasoline increased 6 cents from a month ago, but fell about 1 cent over the past week, according to data from the AAA and GasBuddy. This week marks some relief for drivers who saw gas prices rise in the months leading up to May.

“We saw the national average weaken slightly again as oil prices declined and our spring peak appears to be behind us with more confidence,” GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said Monday in a statement.

Gas prices have remained a troublesome element in efforts to curb inflation, sitting today about 10 cents a gallon higher than they were this time last year. The ongoing war in Ukraine, which has resulted in the targeting of Russian oil facilities, and the growing conflict surrounding Israel’s war in Gaza helped drive prices higher in the spring.

Stacker compiled statistics on gas prices in the Houston, Texas, metro area using AAA data. Gas prices are in effect as of May 6.
