Not a single FIR registered against West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose over rape complaint against dancer

Kolkata Police have filed a Zero FIR against West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose after a dancer filed a complaint of sexual harassment. The FIR was filed under sections 376 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Bose’s nephew was also named in the FIR registered at Hare Street police station.

Notably, an FIR is generally registered at the police station that falls under the jurisdiction of the area where an incident occurred. However, when a Zero FIR is registered, the police registering the case can investigate the incident, irrespective of where it occurred. Once the case is opened, it can be transferred to the police station in whose area the offence is alleged to have been committed.

According to the complaint, Bose brought a famous dancer from Odisha to Delhi under the pretext of a dance show in June 2023. The dancer was forced to stay in a five-star hotel, where she was allegedly sexually abused by the governor.

The “victim” approached the State Secretariat in Nabanna with his complaint. The police were instructed to conduct a preliminary investigation into the matter. A report on the findings of the investigation was submitted to the State Secretariat.

Recently, allegations were made against Governor CV Ananda Bose of sexually harassing a female staff member in his office at Raj Bhavan. In this matter, the police have filed a complaint against the Secretary to the Governor and other staff members of Raj Bhavan.

Bose, however, denied the allegations and claimed that such allegations would not stop him from exposing TMC’s corruption and violence in the state.
