Diocese of Buffalo recommends closing or merging 15 churches

More information on the proposed right-sizing of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo has been released.

St. Margaret on Hertel Ave., St. Louis on Edward St. and St. Stanislaus on Peckham St. are some of the parishes that will absorb the church closures.

Schools will remain open in Saint-Marc and Saint-Martin de Tours, and Saint-Antoine de Padoue on Court Street will remain open as an oratory.

  • Holy Spirit (Dakota St.): merge with St. Margaret (Hertel Ave.)
  • St. Mark (Woodward Ave.): merge with St. MargaretSt. Rose of Lima (Parker Ave.): merge with St. Margaret
  • All Saints (Chadduck Ave.): merge with Assumption (Amherst St.)

  • Saint-Laurent (Avenue E. Delavan): merge with Blessed Trinity (Avenue Leroy)
  • SS. Columba Brigid (Hickory St.): merge St. Stanislaus (Peckham St.)

  • Our Lady of Perpetual Help (O’Connell St.): merge with St. Louis

  • St. John Kanty (Swinburne Street): merge with St. Stanislaus
  • St. John Gualbert (Gualbert Avenue): merge with St. Stanislaus

  • Saint-Martin de Tours (Abbott Rd.): merge with Our Lady of Charity (South Park Ave.)
  • St. Thomas Aquinas (Abbott Rd.): merge with St. Teresa (Seneca St.)

  • St. Bernard (Clinton Street): merge with Our Lady of Czestochowa (Willowlawn Pkwy.)

The diocese has announced plans to merge about a third of its total 160 parishes.
