Police investigate alleged shooting on Saturday evening

STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) – An investigation is underway following a suspected shooting at an apartment complex in Storm Lake, Iowa.

On Saturday, June 1, Storm Lake Police responded to a 911 call from 120 Highway Street at approximately 6:50 p.m., resulting in a heavy police presence.

According to a press release Monday evening, police officers responded to reports of “an armed, barricaded individual who claimed to have committed a shooting.”

Authorities said officers secured the perimeter of the apartment complex and began evacuating residents from the area to ensure public safety.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department’s Facebook page, the scene was cleared by the Storm Lake Police Department’s response team and other emergency responders by 9 p.m.

After an investigation, officers concluded that the apartment complex was unoccupied and that there was no evidence of crime at the scene.

Police concluded that the reported crime was a hoax and posed no danger to the public, the agency said.

Storm Lake Police said: “We understand the fear and concern that such false reports can cause and we want to assure you that we are continuing our investigation into this matter to hold those responsible accountable.”

Storm Lake Police were assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and Storm Lake Fire Department.
