Driver arrested in fatal hit-and-run in Greenwood Co

GREENWOOD COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – The man allegedly responsible for a fatal hit-and-run has been arrested.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 6:20 a.m. Friday on Highway 185 near Pickens Creek Road, west of Hodges.

Officials said the bicycle and an unknown vehicle were both traveling south on Highway 185 when the vehicle struck the bicyclist, later identified as Michael Bryan Hayes.

On Saturday evening, highway patrol reported that they had located the 1998 Ford pickup truck involved in the hit-and-run, as well as the man who was allegedly behind the wheel.

The driver, 26-year-old Tristin Frank McClain, was arrested and charged with hit-and-run resulting in death.

McClain is currently lodged at the Greenwood County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
