Buffalo County police are planning a memorial service Wednesday

KEARNEY — The Kearney Police Department and the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office are inviting the public to honor courageous law enforcement officers during National Police Week.

The celebration will run until May 18. On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., KPD and BCSO will hold a memorial service in front of the Kearney/Buffalo County Law Enforcement Center in downtown Kearney.

The ceremony will be an opportunity to remember and pay tribute to officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The presence of the public means a lot to law enforcement, according to the memorial ceremony announcement.

The ceremony will include the national anthem, a ceremonial wreath placed at the base of the flagpole, taps and firing of rifles by the honor guard.

“We are grateful for the unwavering support of our community. Let us stand united in solidarity and appreciation,” according to the announcement.

There will be temporary traffic delays and road closures near the Law Enforcement Center at 21st Street and Avenue A during the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.
