Food Town Celebrates 30 Years of Serving Houston Communities

Food Town, a Houston-based grocer, is celebrating 30 years of personalized customer service and quality products this year.

Store officials will celebrate the anniversary by offering special discounts and hosting in-store events, according to a May 1 news release.

The backstory

The first Food Town location opened on April 28, 1994, at 2040 South Richey St., Pasadena, by lifelong grocer Ross Lewis and six partners. The store now has 29 locations in the Greater Houston area, according to the press release.

With a focus on providing affordable access to national brands and high-quality products, the team has ensured its success by housing its stores in pre-existing retail locations with products aimed at surrounding neighborhoods, according to the press release.

“These guys not only had the grocery business in their blood, but they also had Houston’s best interests at heart,” Food Town President Mike Lewis said in the release. “They thought about everything, from the prices they were offering to where they were doing business.”

What else?

The store launched its mobile app, Food Town+ in early 2020, followed by the addition of Instacart delivery in 2023.

The store also offers curbside pickup at two locations, including:

  • 9725 Fondren Road, Houston
  • 7121 Broadway Street, Pearland

Company management said it is also looking to expand this business to other locations, one store at a time, according to the release.

Looking ahead, Lewis said the grocer may have new locations to join the brand, but the company will remain focused on the Houston area.

“We are proud of our roots in Houston and have no plans to expand outside of the place we know and love,” he said. “For three decades now, we have been the local grocer trusted by our friends and neighbors. This is what we want to continue to be for many years to come. »
