Bail for man charged with sexual abuse of a minor reduced in 2021

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Kona judge has reduced the bail for a Honolulu man charged with sexually abusing a minor.

District Attorney Kelden Waltjen said 46-year-old Shawn Michael Henriques of Honolulu was charged with sexually abusing a minor under the age of 14 in April 2021.

He made his first appearance in Kona District Court last Friday. The prosecution objected, but the judge still decided to reduce his bail from $250,000 to $100,000.

Henriques was also ordered to appear before a jury on November 19.

According to court records, prosecutors said Henriques later posted bail.

Henriques is charged with first-degree sexual assault, a Class A felony. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
