Another small earthquake reported in metro Atlanta, geological study confirms

BUFORD, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – For the third time in less than a week, a small earthquake has been reported in the Atlanta metro area.

The earthquake occurred just northwest of Buford at 12:37 a.m. Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

This latest earthquake had a magnitude of 2.0 and a depth of 1.3 kilometers, according to the USGS.

Two overnight earthquakes shook communities around Lake Lanier Thursday evening and early Friday. The epicenters of both earthquakes were in Buford, just at the south end of the lake. The first, which occurred Thursday around 11:15 p.m., had a magnitude of 2.5. The second occurred at 1:30 a.m. Friday and had a magnitude of 2.1. The shaking was felt most intensely from Sugar Hill to Chestatee, according to a USGS map.

No injuries or damage were reported from these earthquakes.
