Atlanta – The Peabody Awards

Atlanta – The Peabody Awards

FX Productions (FX)

When it premiered in 2016, the Donald Glover-led FX comedy-drama Atlanta was part of a small group of shows paving the way for an exciting new era of black television. The experimental series, in which Glover plays a deadpan Princeton dropout trying to manage his cousin’s burgeoning rap career, won a Peabody that year for its sharp, evocative portrayal of its eponymous town and the characters there. make a way. Now, in its final seasons, the groundbreaking series has transcended its initial success. First of all by introducing an anthology-style structure in season 3 which deviated greatly from the central casting, the last two parts of Atlanta demonstrates a wealth of creativity, insight and panache. The series has tackled topics as weighty as the abuse of transracial adoptees and as light-hearted as the uniquely Black American tradition of Goofy stories. Atlanta, quite simply, surpassed himself. For its thematic depth, stylistic finesse and innovative storytelling, we once again recognize Atlanta as a Peabody winner.
