Roswell Park renewed for national designation and multi-million dollar grant

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center expects to receive at least $22 million as part of the renewal of its National Cancer Institute designation.

The renewal of the Cancer Center Support Grant brings both dollars and cachet to the Buffalo site, which is one of 57 NCI-designated cancer centers across the country and the only in New York outside the Manhattan metropolitan area. It is also one of 30 members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

Although the amount of the new grant has not yet been finalized by the NCI, Roswell park officials expect it to be significant, with the organization receiving an “outstanding” rating – the highest rating high possible in the 50-year-old NCI program. Roswell Park has successfully competed for this grant 13 times since 1972, more than any other cancer center. This achievement follows an extensive review by cancer experts across the country.
