WF police believe a man carrying a rifle died in an accidental shooting

Police believe a man died after being accidentally shot by an AK-47 he was carrying in Wichita Falls on Monday, according to a news release.

According to a police media release, Wichita Falls officers responded to a welfare call for assistance in the 100 block of Patterson Street at 11:52 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old man dead on the property in front of the house. He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

A male witness who left the home with the 28-year-old said they were walking toward a vehicle in the driveway when he heard a gunshot and turned to see the victim fall to the ground.

The witness told police that the victim had an AK-47 wrapped in clothing in his arms and also had other items in his hands.
