Woman injured after attending concert shows signs of improvement

Bird Piche, 24, was in the crowd at Mohawk Place when the lead singer of the band Trophy Eyes dove on stage into the audience and landed on Piche.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — There’s news of a Western New York woman who was partially paralyzed after attending a punk concert in downtown Buffalo earlier this month.

Bird Piche, 24, was in the crowd at Mohawk Place when the lead singer of the band Trophy Eyes dove on stage into the audience and landed on Piche.

She was seriously injured and suffered a spinal cord injury.

Piche and her family spoke to NBC News and told them she had regained use of her arms and some function in her legs.

However, she is still not able to move her hands or toes.

“I’m going to rehab later today or tomorrow, but they think I’ll be fully recovered,” Piché told NBC News. “Nothing is certain, obviously, but they predict that everything will be fully restored.

“So my legs, it’s involuntary, have been kicking a lot lately. I can’t control that,” said Piché, a Planned Parenthood patient services specialist. “My arms, other than the dexterity of my hand, are almost entirely there. My fingers don’t have full movement.”

“I have a long way to go, but I’m very optimistic right now,” she said.

Bird is originally from the Olean-Allegany area and attended Fredonia University. She now lives in Buffalo and works for Planned Parenthood.

There is a GoFundMe to cover his medical expenses.
